A vibrant celebration of Caribbean heritage, art and culture, the Notting Hill Carnival will land in London this year on the 27th of August. Due to the pandemic, the carnival has been absent from the city’s usually buzzing social schedule – meaning this year’s edition will be a comeback to remember.

For those of you who won’t be attendance, don’t worry – we’ve got your back. Here’s how you can throw a memorable carnival-themed party at home (with a little help from Bob’s songs to inspire you). Bright colours? Check. Music? Of course. A speaker to be reckoned with? You know the answer to that.

RAINBOW COUNTRY
Get creative! The Notting Hill Carnival is a spectacular showcase of colour – so who’s to say your living room shouldn’t be? You don’t have to spend a fortune either. Use bright coloured bedsheets and drape them across the walls or your garden fence to add an instant ‘festival’ vibe. Finish with any cushions, rugs and fairy lights you can find. Oh, and dress up in your most vibrant clothes too. A bright, feathered headdress won’t go amiss either.

ONE DROP
Take your styling skills to a whole new level – they don’t have to stop at decorations! Compile a list of colourful cocktails (or mocktails) and get mixing. Our favourite? Rum punch. All you need is white rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice and grenadine. Remember to finish with a pineapple wedge and some cherries for a drink that’s just *chef’s kiss*.

CAUTION
Spice things up with a menu that pays homage to the Caribbean culture – just prepare yourself for the heat! Jerk chicken is a flavour-filled option that will blow your guests away, while banana fritters are a go-to for those with a slightly sweeter tooth. Our thoughts? A little bit of everything is bound to put a smile on your friends’ faces.

BAD CARD
Get some games going to keep your guests entertained. Card games are a winner every time (unless you lose), and a brightly decorated game of limbo is sure to go down well. Think bright, bold tissue paper and tassles.

JAMMIN’
Finally, make sure your music choice reflects the day. Spotify has a bunch of playlists created to celebrate Notting Hill Carnival. Switch on your Marley speaker, hit play and enjoy the day.
